Interview with Lili Robinson from August Bloom
1. What sparked your interest/passion to start August Bloom?
The spark has been burning for quite some time, from when I started floristry at 15 to now. It has always been my dream to open my own florist. I’ve always loved how rewarding and creative the floristry industry is, every day brings a new challenge. So when the opportunity came up I didn’t hesitate.
2. What makes you most excited about floristry?
Too many things to name... fresh market days unpacking the flower delivery is like Christmas morning, so many goodies to unpack! Delivering flowers and making someone’s day! Being given the opportunity to create something special for all different milestones through peoples lives, babies, weddings, birthdays and all of those in between.
3. What is your favourite part about running your own business?
The freedom to do what I love and networking with other local businesses. It is so rewarding getting positive feedback for something that I have poured my heart and soul into. August Bloom is a little shop of everything ‘me’ so it warms my heart that everyone loves it as much as I do.
4. How has winning the creative services giveaway affected your business journey?
If it wasn’t for this giveaway I probably wouldn’t have August Bloom just yet. It has always been my dream to have my own shop but it has always intimidated me how much planning and organisation that goes into opening a shop. Winning this giveaway has lifted a massive weight off my shoulders and has allowed me to create my business at a more professional level than I ever thought I could. From a beautifully unique logo, social media support, creatively written ‘about us’ page and a show stopping website! Words can not describe how grateful I am!
5. What is something you have learned whilst starting/running your own business?
That there is so much support out there. Running a business is hard work, that’s no secret. But there are so many services available to help get started. Small business courses, local business networking groups and more! So many people are happy to help.
6. Is there anything you're looking forward to with the growth of August Bloom?
I can’t wait to see where my business takes me, I’ve already been given so many amazing opportunities. I have a Mexican Fiesta bridal shoot coming up which I’m so excited for! I’ll also be in the Naked for Change Calendar for 2021 to raise money and awareness for the ‘Got your back sister’ charity. In this I’ll be posing nearly nude, covering myself in flowers! Something that is so out of my comfort zone but I know that 70 year old me will be showing it off to all her grandchildren
